American Idol follows judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul as they search for the next pop music superstar.

Each week, the contestants perform and endure harsh criticism from the judges on Tuesday night, then are gradually voted off by a viewer vote on Wednesday night. The winner at the end of the season receives a major recording and management contract.
