DENVER -- Colorado is rife with gladiator wannabes.

Six of the 40 contenders on the next round of NBC's "American Gladiators" have ties to the state, including two best-friend Denver cops.

LOS ANGELES -- She can skate. She can dance. She can juggle two kids. Yet Kristi Yamaguchi still finds time to have her fingernails painted hot pink -- with black tiger stripes.

Wiggling her fingers, she is getting a giggle out of daughters Keara, 4, and Emma, 2. The girls and dad Bret Hedican, a hockey star, have arrived hand in hand to picnic in a park with Yamaguchi across the street from the studio where she competes on ABC's Dancing With the Stars.

These days, it is one of their rare escapes together as a family.
