Shock Treatment
Presented by screen legend Rutger Hauer, SHOCK TREATMENT is about fear. Real fear. And about how real people try to deal with it. In each show 4 new members of the public volunteer to spend 48 hours in a secret location and undergo experiments designed to scare them.
What they do not know is that they are going to a disused mental asylum, a Victorian horror full of damp and peeling corridors, that they are going to be locked in separate cells with no daylight, no watches and no one to talk to except masked figures who never talk back. All this is designed to unsettle the volunteers, to create an environment of powerlessness, uncertainty and stress. Under the control of the fictitious Dr. John Templeton, the volunteers endure a series of unique experiments, each of which explores a different kind of fear: violence, snakes, electrocution, the dark, drowning, disgust, heights, spiders, pain, inflicting pain on others -- and much more. Using a cast of actors and stuntmen, and an array of psychological tricks and illusion, SHOCK TREATMENT aims to convince our volunteers that they are really facing their worst fears. |
